Who are we?

At Girl Garage Foundation, we are dedicated to driving change and addressing the critical issues that affect young women in Uganda. Co-founded in 2019 by a group of passionate young women, our mission is to promote reproductive health, reduce teenage pregnancies, and empower young women through mentorship. We are committed to ensuring that every young woman has access to age-appropriate reproductive health education, support, and resources to make informed decisions about her health and her future.

Our achievements are a testament to the power of passion, collaboration, and innovation. Through our reproductive health programs and youth mentorship initiatives, we have made a meaningful impact on the lives of young women in Uganda, equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and support to live healthier, more empowered lives.

Reproductive Health:

In Uganda, young women face significant sexual and reproductive health challenges, including high rates of teenage pregnancy, HIV/AIDS, menstrual period poverty, and unmet contraceptive needs. These issues present immediate and life-threatening risks to their well-being, education, and economic prospects.

Teenage pregnancy, in particular, remains one of the most pressing concerns. According to the UNFPA, one in four girls in Uganda becomes pregnant before the age of 18, a statistic that impacts their future in profound ways. The situation is especially dire in rural districts like Isingiro and Bundibugyo, where poverty, lack of youth-friendly reproductive health services, and limited access to sexual education exacerbate the problem.

In response, Girl Garage Foundation launched a multi-phase project aimed at reducing teenage pregnancies in school-going girls. We focus on providing comprehensive reproductive health education, connecting young women to affordable and youth-friendly health services, and empowering them to make informed decisions.

Since the launch of this project, we have successfully reached over 1,000 girls across five secondary schools in rural districts such as Isingiro and Rukungiri in Western Uganda. Through grassroots outreach and social media mobilization, we ensure that girls in these communities have access to essential education and health services, helping them make healthier choices and take control of their futures.

Youth Mentorship:

At Girl Garage Foundation, we believe that mentorship is a powerful tool for personal and professional growth. Many young women face a lack of guidance, role models, and the support needed to navigate their personal and career journeys. This often leads to feelings of disempowerment and missed opportunities.

To address this, we created the Intergenerational Youth Mentorship Platform. This initiative connects young women aged 18-30 with accomplished female mentors who provide guidance in areas such as career development, personal growth, financial management, and leadership. Through monthly mentorship meetings, both online and in-person, young women can engage with mentors, discuss their challenges, and set goals for their future.

The mentorship platform not only offers professional guidance but also fosters a sense of community. Mentees form accountability groups, where they hold each other accountable for their personal and financial goals. These groups offer both financial discipline and emotional support, creating a network of empowered young women who uplift one another.

Through mentorship, we aim to inspire the next generation of leaders, entrepreneurs, and change-makers. Our program equips young women with the skills, confidence, and resilience needed to overcome barriers and succeed in all aspects of their lives.

At Girl Garage Foundation, we are more than just a non-profit—we are a movement. Our vision is to empower young women to live healthier, more informed, and more empowered lives. By deepening partnerships, leveraging new technologies, and engaging more mentors and community leaders, we strive to be a transformative force in the lives of young women in Uganda and Africa at large.

Together, we are creating a future where young women have the resources, guidance, and support to achieve their dreams. Join us in this journey to bridge the gap between young women and their future.
